POLICE are to step up patrols on a site of special scientific interest in Gwynedd after a recent incident of antisocial behaviour at the location

Bryn Gaer, in Dinas Dinlle, a prehistoric settlement, is currently the subject of an archaeological dig.

But North Wales Police (NWP) have said a party was recently held at the location, with equipment set alight, some of the structure damaged, and litter left strewn across the site.

Those who see any further such behaviour or damage are urged to contact the force.

NWP Rural Crime Team said: “This is Bryn Gaer in Dinas Dinlle, a prehistoric settlement with evidence of Roman habitation and possibly referred to in the Mabinogi as the home of Lleu Llaw Gyffes and his wife Blodeuwedd.

“It is on a site of special scientific interest and is a scheduled ancient monument and is so rich in history.

“It is currently subject of an archaeological dig to find more of that history.

“It is, therefore, deplorable that very recently people decided to have a party at the location and in the process of doing so, set some of the equipment alight, damaged some of the structure, and left an abundance of litter at the location.

“With sites such as these, there is no doubt that the phrase: ‘When it’s gone, it’s gone’, rings true.

“If you see antisocial behaviour or damage being caused at any heritage site, please contact the police so that we can put a stop to such damage.

“There will be increased patrols to the site by ourselves and local neighbourhood policing teams.”
