A CARER who stole from an elderly woman in Anglesey while she was in hospital has been struck off.
In January, Mandy Murphy, 52, was jailed for 16 months at Caernarfon Crown Court after admitting fraud and burglary, offences which Judge Timothy Petts described as “a despicable abuse of trust”.
The court heard that Murphy, of Trem y Mor, Rhosneigr, had been among the carers for Winifred Egerton at her home in Benllech, but after Mrs Egerton was admitted to hospital in October 2020, Murphy used a spare key to enter her property.
In 16 visits, she stole a total of £9,210, and the police were alerted by Mrs Egerton’s daughter, Julie Webb, who noticed items missing.

Murphy, a grandmother, was seen on CCTV withdrawing money from her Post Office account, which was left empty.
Murphy told police that she was in debt and had stopped taking medication, and that the temptation was too great.
She said she was addicted to shopping, having spent the money on clothes, presents and carpets.
The Fitness to Practise committee of Social Care Wales found the charges against her proved that her fitness to practise was currently impaired.
She has been removed from the register and cannot return to work as a domiciliary care worker or any other care role in Wales.
