BANGOR-based theatre company “Work In Progress Theatre” has recently announced a campaign to raise funds to stage its new show.
“Dinner With Gatsby” is a musical retelling of the classic novel, “The Great Gatsby”, from a new perspective.
It focuses on the struggles felt by those assigned female at birth, with a lens on domestic violence, and those identifying as LGBTQ+.
Exploring important themes which are referenced in the original novel but not discussed, the production aims to tell the stories of those who are commonly seen as victims and how those with a disadvantage could find happiness when there was no escape from their hardships.
Performed by a cast of eight with a live jazz band accompaniment, this is a one-act musical exploring what was deemed socially acceptable just 100 years ago.

The company is currently pushing to raise the necessary funds to develop this show, pay the cast, band, and team a fair wage, and stage the UK premiere of this new musical in Bangor in early 2023, ahead of a UK tour.
In exchange for any donations given, supporters will receive access to a wide variety of rewards related to this production, with everything from signed programmes and free tickets to exclusive performances on offer.
There are also a variety of options available suited to corporate sponsors, including the opportunity to sponsor a song, advertise across the company’s social media and publicity materials, receive free tickets and exclusive performances, and more.
Specific packages can be arranged on request.
