“GŴYL Cefni” is back this year and is celebrating 20 years of bringing live Welsh music to Anglesey.
After two quiet years, the hope is that this will be the best festival yet, with some of Anglesey and Wales’s biggest names performing on the main stage in Llangefni on June 11.
The event has become an important date in the island’s calendar, and is organised by the Gŵyl Cefni voluntary committee, supported by the team at Menter Iaith Môn.
Elen Hughes, chief officer at Menter Iaith Môn, said: “It’s exciting that we can bring this important event back.
“It has been a difficult two years for everyone so this is a wonderful opportunity to meet with friends again and hear the best of the Welsh music scene right here on our doorstep.
“As a team, we aim to encourage people to use their Welsh and create opportunities for people to enjoy the language – including those who speak it everyday and those who may be new to it.
“What better way than organising an event like Gŵyl Cefni to give people a chance to hear and speak Welsh in a natural and friendly atmosphere!”

Among this year’s performers are Gwilym, Fleur De Lys and Meinir Gwilym, who all have their roots on Anglesey.
As well as Saturday’s gig, there will be a comedy night at Llangefni’s Theatr Fach on June 9, and Gŵyl y Ferch in Oriel Môn on June 10.
There is plenty to keep the youngsters entertained too, with a family show, face painting, a children’s yoga sessions, and traditional dancing sessions throughout the day.
There will also be an opportunity to meet some of S4C’s stars – including Tudur Phillips.
Saturday’s events are free thanks to the support of the UK Community Renewal Fund and the Arts Council of Wales.
Menter Iaith Môn is a part of the Menter Môn family and has been promoting the Welsh language on the island for almost 25 years.
For the first time this year, the public can connect to free Wi-Fi during the festival through the Gwynedd and Anglesey SMART Towns project.
Through the Patrwm.io website, the festival’s committee can learn about the town’s population at different points in the day, as well as allowing them to ask visitors for feedback.
This will help the committee to better understand the nature of Gŵyl Cefni, how many attend, and get feedback – all valuable data that will help with organising the event in the future.
