The new leader of Anglesey County Council has warmly welcomed working in partnership with members of the island’s Independent group.
Speaking as she embarked on her second five-year term in the leading role, following her election success on May 24, Councillor Llinos Medi told the Local Democracy Service she was now very much “looking forward” to working as part of a coalition with members of Y Grŵp Annibynnol (The Independent Group) led by Cllr Ieuan Williams.
At the meeting, 40-year-old Cllr Medi, who represents the Talybolion ward, and leads the 21-strong Plaid Cymru group, was elected unopposed.
Cllr Medi was the first woman to lead the Isle of Anglesey County Council, after her previous election success in 2017.
It is her second stint in the leadership role.

Cllr Williams echoed her views saying his group was also looking forward to “building on the strong relationships,” forged during the last term of office.
In her latest election speech, Cllr Medi had pressed that maintaining “political stability and maturity” was key to her role and for the county council to succeed.
“Anglesey is now one of the best performing authorities in Wales.” She said.
“We want to build on that over the next five years.”
Pledging at her election to work with every other elected member on behalf of the island and its communities she said:
“This council has made important strides forward during my previous tenure as Council Leader.
“The residents of Anglesey deserve to see the political stability and maturity nurtured in recent years flourish.
“This is key if we are to continue working positively on behalf of our communities and residents.”
“I welcome working with the Independent group led by Cllr Ieuan Williams, and the Independent Group, they have been very supportive to me.
“We now aim build on the progress made together.”
Cllr Ieuan Williams, who represents the Lligwy ward, said “We are also looking forward to the next five years working together.”
He said: “If you go back 2017, it is all been about political stability and being mature.
“We are very much looking to carrying on that strong relationship that we have been building over the past few years.”
Cllr Medi added that “Positive and constructive working relationships amongst all elected members must continue,” adding “I will do my utmost to ensure that they do.”
“As councillors, our main aim now should be to focus on providing the best possible options to ensure that our island is a place where people can prosper.”
