Y FELINHELI’S duck race was an important part of the village’s annual calendar up to the pandemic.
A small village nestled between Bangor and Caernarfon, its rubber duck race saw hundreds of rubber ducks race on a river, with each duck bought by participants and given a number which gives participants a chance to win cash prizes.
It is believed the first ever duck race took place in the north Wales village of Dyserth. Bill Rigby, the local landlord of The Red Lion suggested holding a charity fundraiser by racing rubber ducks in the local river.

And this year, after two years without a duck race due to the pandemic, the race returns to Y Felinheli.
As well as holding more traditional easter activities such as an easter egg hunt and an egg and spoon race for children, Gŵyl y Felinheli Committee members, who are responsible for organising an 8-day summer festival on the shores of the Menai Straits every year, will brave the cold waters of Afon Heulyn.
The Duck Race will take place at 10.30am on Easter Monday, 18 April.
Those who wish to purchase a duck for £1, or for more updates on the event, should contact the organisers on info@gwylfelin.org.
