Gwynedd Youth Service has been awarded the High Sheriff’s Personal Award at the High Sheriff of Gwynedd Annual Crimebeat & Community Awards 2022.

Representatives of the Council service attended the ceremony, which was held on March 24 during Gwynedd Youth’s Wellbeing Festival week, and were presented with the award by Dr Gwyn Owen, the High Sheriff of Gwynedd.

Nia Rees, one of Gwynedd Youth’s workers, along with some of her DofE crew, Haydn, Fiona and Hayden from Ysgol Eifionydd, accepted the award on Gwynedd Youth’s behalf.

They were joined by youth support leader Annette Ryan, former Police Community Support Officer Mark Hughes, and Lizzie Wyn and Fiona Ruddle from Incredible Edibles Porthmadog.

Annette Ryan said: “We cannot thank Dr. Gwyn Owen enough for this honour, and for the kindness and encouragement he’s shown.

“It’s a wonderful award that recognises the guidance and support Youth Workers given to young people across Gwynedd.

“The award night was fantastic!

“Youth Workers work hard to provide young people with opportunities to develop personal, social and educational skills in communities throughout Gwynedd.

“They are available during the evenings, in schools and during the holidays.

“Gwynedd’s young people are brilliant, and deserve every opportunity to reach their full potential. It was incredible being able to share the experience with some of them.

“We’d also like to thank North Wales Police who we work closely with to tackle crime in Gwynedd.

“We work with community officers and have received funding from Police PACT over the years, which enables our youth workers to offer fun and exciting projects and activities to young people.”
