THE gardens of a social enterprise based in Caernarfon have made an appearance on a popular TV show on S4C.
“Stad” is a 6x60’ drama series co-produced with Cwmni Da that follows the residents of Maes Menai, in a fictional town based in Caernarfon.
S4C commissioned the drama in 2020 as a sequel to the popular “Tipyn o Stad” series.
The new series revisits the adventures of the Maes Menai estate 10 years later with a few new faces joining the cast.
The series ended in 2008 following seven successful series, but eagle-eyed watchers may have noticed a familiar sight in the new series.
One of the locations in “Stad” is the allotments where Carys and Charlie Gurkah (Gwenno Elis Hodgkins and Wyn Bowen Harries) plant food that is used in a foodshare scheme for the people of the estate.

It has been confirmed that these scenes were filmed at Antur Waunfawr's gardens at the Bryn Pistyll site in the village.
Antur Waunfawr is a social enterprise providing work opportunities for adults with learning disabilities, and Tirmon is one of Antur’s current projects.
Tirmon promotes self-sufficiency and healthy eating, and since 2013, staff and a team of individuals have been cultivating part of the land in Waunfawr, growing a vast variety of vegetables and herbs.
