MORE than 25,000 litres of beer were seized from a truck and trailer which disembarked a ferry from Holyhead.
On Tuesday (March 15), officers from the Irish company Revenue took the alcohol at Dublin Port following a search of the Romanian registered truck and trailer.
The smuggled alcohol, branded “Perla”, had an estimated retail value of €101,300 (more than £85,000), representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of more than €47,400 (roughly £40,000).

The consignment was seized following routine profiling aimed at identifying alcohol products that may be diverted onto the market without payment of the tax and duties due.
Revenue said in a statement that investigations are ongoing.
This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illicit alcohol products in the shadow economy.
