A COLEG Menai student has won a gold medal at the Welsh Weightlifting Championships.
18-year-old Cian Green, a student at the Coleg’s Llangefni campus, competed in the Under-20s competition and lifted 100kg Snatch, and 130kg Clean and Jerk.
Having only started weightlifting to improve his physique for rugby, Mr Green is now both the Under-20s national champion, and the record holder in his age category.
The competition was held at the Brailsford Centre, Bangor University, and brought together youth and junior weightlifters from across Wales.
Mr Green said of his achievements: “I’m really pleased with my performance at the Welsh Championships.
“I’ve been training four times a week in preparation, and have had to schedule my training around my college work.
“I can’t wait to see how this year progresses, and I am hoping one day to represent Wales at the Commonwealth Games.”
