A MAN has died and another driver has been seriously injured following a crash involving four vehicles on the Britannia Bridge this morning (January 20).

North Wales Police (NWP) was called at 2.55am today to a report of a serious crash involving two heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and two cars on the westbound carriageway on approach to the bridge.

The driver of one car was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of another car was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor with serious injuries.

In an update at 4.10pm, NWP confirmed: "The man who sadly died was 52-years-old and was from the Amlwch area.

"His next of kin have been informed and they are being supported by a specially-trained Family Liaison Officer.

"The man who was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor remains in hospital with serious injuries.

"Officers arrested a 38-year-old local HGV driver on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody at this time."

Sergeant Jason Diamond, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this time.

“I am aware of the significant delays on the road network today and I would like to thank the motoring public for their continued patience.

“Throughout the day we have been working with partner agencies to re-open the road as soon as possible and this work continues.

“Our investigation is well underway and I am appealing to anybody who may have witnessed the collision and who are yet to speak to us, or to anybody who may have dash cam footage, to contact us as soon as possible.”
