POLICE are investigating an alleged incident of racial abuse aimed at a footballer during a match last weekend.
A player for CPD Llanberis Football Club was allegedly the target of a racist comment during the team’s away match at Meliden FC on Saturday (January 15).
North Wales Police (NWP) have confirmed they are investigating the incident.
A statement from Llanberis FC read: “Following an alleged incident of a racist comment made towards a Llanberis player on January 15 during a football match, the matter is being referred to North Wales Police and North Wales Coast Football Association / Football Association of Wales.
“As a club, we stand resolutely behind our player and fully support him.
“At this point in time, CPD Llanberis will not be issuing any further comment.”
A spokesperson for North Wales Police added: "North Wales Police are investigating after receiving reports of an alleged hate-related crime during a football fixture in Llanberis on Saturday, January 15.
"The fixture, between Llanberis FC and Meliden FC, was abandoned after 75 minutes because of the incident.
