GWYNEDD council has agreed to resettle a further four refugees following the refugee crisis in Afghanistan.
The local authority is in the process of relocating the additional four individuals under the Afghan Relocation and Assistance Policy (ARAP) for locally employed staff at risk of reprisals from the Taliban due to their assistance of British troops.
It comes after the council resettled two refugees under ARAP last month, with more refugees expected over the coming weeks or months.
“Two individuals have already been settled in Gwynedd under the ARAP scheme,” a council spokesperson said.
“A further four refugees from Afghanistan are expected to be settled in the county soon, and we have also agreed to accept more refugees in future and are working with the Home Office at present.”
Denbighshire County Council has agreed to accommodate a total of five refugee families under ARAP, which could be increased to 10 depending on a central government funding commitment following the current 12-month timescale.
Meanwhile Conwy County Borough Council said it has not yet stepped up its initial commitment to relocate one refugee family due to concerns over the “demand and supply” of temporary and affordable accommodation.
Isle of Anglesey Council has been approached for an update on its commitment under ARAP.
