The minister who brought 200 jobs to Anglesey at the new Inland Border Facility has thanked Ynys Môn MP Virginia Crosbie for her “support and enthusiasm” in securing the service on the island.

Treasury and Cabinet Office minister Lord Agnew decided that the new customs building will be located at the former Roadking truck stop in Holyhead following work with the island's Conservative MP and HMRC.

Staff are set to relocate to the site next month and building works will follow.

The facility is due to be operational by January next year.

In a letter to Mrs Crosbie, Lord Agnew said: “I would like to start by thanking you for your continued support and enthusiasm in relation to the Caergybi/Holyhead Inland Border facility (IBL) for North Wales.

“With your support, we have worked extremely hard to find a site most suited to the needs of the port, and the island.

“As you know, a real positive of this is that HMRC and its partners will bring more than 200 new jobs and careers to the island of Anglesey and these new vacancies will be advertised as soon as possible.

“I, and my team at HMRC, will continue to work alongside you, as we have done throughout this process, and I look forward to sharing further success through our continued collaboration.”

She added: “I am delighted more than 200 high-quality jobs will come to Anglesey because of this facility and I am pleased I could work with the minister to make it a reality.

“Jobs and investment are vital for Ynys Môn if we are to stop young people from leaving for work elsewhere and if we are to raise living standards and opportunities for all.”
