A NEW facility is set to open in Harlech where people can collect and return their library books.
Click and Collect Library Links have been set-up by Gwynedd Libraries to make it easy for the county’s people to order and collect books from the Library at a location close to them, without having to travel to their usual Library.
Siop Dewi in Penrhyndeudraeth has been very busy for the past three years as a Click and Collect Link, but the people of Harlech can now take full advantage of this facility.
From June 4, a new location is opening in Harlech where people can order and collect library books. This will be in addition to the facility in Penrhyndeudraeth.
Through collaboration between Gwynedd Council’s Libraries Service and the volunteer Management Committee of the Harlech Library and Institute, a computer has been installed in the building and visitors can order, collect and return their library books to the Institute. The books can then be returned via the weekly library distribution van that visits Harlech.
Jim Maxwell, secretary of the charity that runs Harlech Library and Institute, said: “The Old Library and Institute in Harlech was opened in 1908 to promote activities that make use of the building for the benefit of the local community.
“We have improved the building including the creation a reference library to display some two thousand books acquired at the closure of Coleg Harlech. Thanks to a grant from the Pilgrim's Trust the books are now being catalogued. The facility will be extended as more shelves become available.
“We are delighted to be able to work with Gwynedd Libraries to establish a Library link here which will include hosting a computer with a web link and the people of Harlech can order any book from the library catalogue and collect it here at the Institute.”
Gareth Thomas, Cabinet Member for Economic and Community Development, added: “It's great to be able to establish a relationship of working with the local community to improve access to library services in Gwynedd.
“This free resource to use will be a great asset to Harlech residents. We are extremely grateful to the charity of Harlech Library and Institute for their generous offer.
“Partnerships like this show where we can work together to make the most of our shared resources to provide the best service and value to the people of Gwynedd.”
