A man dressed in black had produced a machete from his waistband and threatened to kill a close friend and his family, a court heard.
He was jailed for 15 months.
Benjamin Evans, aged 25, a labourer, of Caernarfon Road, Bangor, also received an indefinite restraining order banning him from a street at the village of Llanllyfni. He admitted making a threat to kill and possessing the machete in March.
Defence counsel Ryan Rothwell at Caernarfon crown court said Evans had been diagnosed with a borderline personality disorder.
Judge Timothy Petts told the defendant :”It has to be an immediate custodial sentence.”
