Angry at being refused entry to a late-night party in Bangor Kieron Wilson hurled a wine bottle at the front door – and the shattered glass injured a man who had told him he was unwelcome.
At Caernarfon crown court Wilson, aged 22, of Brynsiencyn, Anglesey, received an 18 months jail sentence, suspended for 18 months, after he pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding of Robert Boyes.
He must carry out 200 hours of unpaid work, with 25 sessions of rehabilitation activity and a restraining order bans him from contacting Mr Boyes or referring to him on social media.
Ffion Tomos, prosecuting, said the incident happened last August at Garfield Terrace, Bangor, when a group who had been drinking turned up at 10.45pm despite having been sent a text that they were not invited. Splinters from the smashed bottle injured the jaw, neck and elbow of Mr Boyes and required stitches in hospital. Friends had dragged Wilson away.
In a victim impact statement Mr Boyes said he had been deeply affected by the incident, had lost work, and for some time had suffered pain because of his cuts.
Paulinus Barnes, defending, described Wilson as “one of the politest clients we have ever come across who appears to be genuinely sorry.” There was a realistic chance of rehabilitation.
Wilson appeared via video link from Berwyn Prison, where he had been held on remand for three months.
Judge Nicola Jones was told of trauma suffered by the defendant as a child and that he had not been in trouble before. “What you did was absolutely wrong and you have accepted that,” she said.
