AN APPEAL for the mass vaccination centres in North Wales be used by the elderly, has been made by Aberconwy MS, Janet Finch-Saunders.

Following numerous elderly constituents raising concerns about the rollout of the vaccinations Mrs Finch-Saunders written to Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board asking what steps are being taken to ensure communication is made with all over 80’s in the health board area.

She also sought clarity as to whether the three new mass vaccination centres in North Wales will be used to vaccinate elderly residents.

She said: “This week we have seen progress in vaccination rollout thanks to the opening of mass centres in Deeside, Llandudno, and Bangor.

“I understand these are intended for use by nearly 2,000 care home staff. However, the same phase is supposed to include the over 80s.

“In the face of increasing concern about elderly constituents not receiving communication about vaccines, I have written to the acting chief executive of the Health Board to seek clarity on whether the mass centres will be used to provide support to older residents once all care homes staff have been reached.

“Given Conwy County’s significantly older population, it would be extremely reasonable to use the mass vaccination centre in Llandudno to help with the rollout to constituents in Aberconwy.

“What is abundantly clear is that many constituents feel left out in the cold this bleak midwinter. Communication must improve”.
