THE Welsh Conservatives' new candidate for Ynys Mon said reforming business rates and increasing school funding are among her top priorities ahead of the Senedd elections.
Lyn Hudson has been selected to stand for Welsh Parliament in 2021 with the Welsh Conservatives aiming to win their first ever election.
Mrs Hudson, a former legal secretary who has been a local councillor in Cardiff for 12 years, said her main focus will be on the economic recovery of the region which has faced once of the most barren periods of tourism in recent memory.
"Like most areas of Wales, Ynys Mon has been hit hard by the Coronavirus pandemic, one of my main aims will be to focus on economic recovery," said Mrs Hudson. "I will fight to support existing jobs and to create news ones.”
“Ynys Mon is a very special place – and the tourism industry plays a key role. It must be protected and supported in every way possible. I will fight to make sure that happens."
Mrs Hudson, who stood as a UK Government candidate for Rhondda in 2015, said she would campaign for reform of the Welsh Labour Government’s business rates and the setting up of enterprise zones to give small businesses a better chance of survival.
“I am also one hundred per cent behind plans for the Wylfa Newydd nuclear project," she said. The opportunities it would bring for jobs are immense – particularly for young people in the market for skilled, w"ell-paid positions.
“I would campaign to secure more investment in vital mental health services – especially for children and young people. I would also ensure the elderly, vulnerable and disabled have a voice to champion their needs.”
Mrs Hudson is also a former Deputy Chair of the All Wales Board of Community Health Councils and is also a school governor.
She has a keen interest in animal welfare and previously volunteered for the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals charity and the Mission to Seafarers.
