ONE of North Wales' top attractions has made the "devastating decision" to cancel its Christmas tours amid new coronavirus restrictions.

Llechwedd, the slate mine visitor site near Blaenau Ffestiniog said it decided shut attractions including its deep mine and off-road adventure tours ahead of the latest string of Covid-19 rules that come into force in Friday.

A Llechwedd spokesperson said customers are in the process of being refunded.

"Following the recent announcements and new Covid regulations from the Welsh Government, we have had to make the devastating decision to cancel our Christmas tours at Llechwedd," a Llechwedd spokesperson said in a post on Facebook.

"Our team have been working hard to deliver a magical, festive experience and this is clearly so disappointing for everybody.

"If you have booked, we will be contacting you shortly to offer a full refund.

"Rest assured, we are working closely with Santa and his Elves on making sure that his visit next year will be even more fun.

"Because we were completely sold out, the presents that Santa had already delivered to Llechwedd will be shared locally via Y Dref Werdd and Banc Bwyd Blaenau - 'food for ffestiniog'."

Llechwedd was named the attraction of the year in the North Wales Go Tourism Awards last year.
