A WOODEN tall ship is undergoing repairs in Bangor prior to taking up her role as a sail training vessel.
The TS Britta arrived at Porth Penrhyn, Bangor after sailing from her home port of Uddevalla in Sweden. On route she collected a cargo of fair trade cocoa from Den Helder in the Netherlands, which she took to Carlingford in Northern Ireland to be made into high quality chocolate.
Her owner and master, Capt Chris Wren, said: “Oak hull planking will be replaced and various other jobs will be undertaken during the two months Britta is scheduled to stay in Bangor.
“I acquired her in the Spring after she had been laid up for two and a half years. Originally built in 1956 for ling fishing she was later converted into a sail training ship giving youngsters and others a taste of the sea.
“The work is being conducted professionally, but anyone interested in volunteering to help would be most welcome, they can email me on chris@chriswren.co.uk or just turn up in Penrhyn.
“She needed various jobs to be completed before resuming her training role. I am planning a programme of cruises to the Canaries, Greece, around Great Britain and Ireland and in the Baltic.”
Chris has 25 years experience in sail training and before that worked on super yachts.
