RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 2,083 prime hoggets to 321ppk / £138; Cull ewes and rams to £198; five prime heifers to £1351.50 and two prime steers to £1,248.
Old season lambs:
A total of 2,083 hoggs met an exceptional trade at Ruthin, with 38kg hoggs from J Jones, Ty Newydd Cyffin, Llangadfan up to 321ppk or £122 per head.
From the same vendors, 41.5kg hoggs made £128 and 46kg hoggs realised £133!
Top price of the day went to R V Jones, Pentre Farm, with 47kg hoggs at £138.
Over 1,000 hoggs were in the medium weight class, returning an overall category average of 264ppk - or an average per head of £112.
A lot of heavy and overweight lambs in the late £120s, with standard weights returning a pleasing average of 249 or £91.50/head.

Gaerwen prize sale of store cattle and OTMs - March 10
MESSRS Morgan Evans and Co reports an entry of 410 store cattle, 28 OTMs and one cow and calf at the March prize sale to kick off the spring season of store cattle auctions.
There was an excellent trade in all sections with an abundance of local and distant buyers present attempting to secure cattle.
Improved numbers forward with a very strong demand for all types.
The top price of the day went to Archer Farms Anglesey Ltd for two 22 month Limousin Heifers, which sold for £1200.
Top price in the steers section went to J G Hughes, Blaen Y Coed far
a pair of 23 month Charollais Steers at £1180.
Mr Hughes had an excellent show of 12 steers forward averaging £1150.
OTM cattle also sold to a fast trade topping at 200ppk for A Jones, Cwmbran.

BRYNCIR Auction reports an entry of 348 hoggets and cull ewes, and 15 cull and OTM cattle.
Cull ewes reached heights never experienced before, topping at £175 and realising a sale average of £106.35!
All sheep farmers should take note and certainly take advantage and
support their local market.
Hoggets were still in strong demand, with cull cows also on a high.

Calves on the day were in short supply.
Those who did sell did not go home disappointed.
A 5 week old Lim bull from Hughes, Ffrith Isa sold to £305 with Lim heifers to £280.
Four week old British Blue bulls were to £300, with younger types up to £250, best heifers to £280.
British Friesians were not a fast trade, with 4 week old calves selling to £95, others to £50 and smalls around the £20 mark.

MESSRS Morgan Evans & Co reports an entry of 40 ewe and lamb couples, and 31 store hoggets.
Couples were slightly easier on the week, with hoggets still in demand.
