Anglesey Council Leader, Councillor Llinos Medi, is honoured to have been included in the list of 100 Welsh Women.
Women’s Equality Network (WEN) Wales has revealed 15 new additions to its list of 100 Welsh Women to celebrate International Women’s day 2020 on March 8th.
Anglesey Council Leader, Llinos Medi, has been named as one of the exceptional women being awarded a place on the list for making a significant and lasting impact within their fields of expertise.
Cllr Llinos Medi said, “I’m delighted to be included in this prestigious list of Welsh Women. It is a great honour. I’m really passionate about my role as a councillor and work I undertake on behalf of the Island and its residents as Council Leader. ”
Catherine Fookes, Director of WEN Wales, said, “Our 100 Welsh women have made great contributions to politics, language, sport, culture, science and industry in Wales. There are some well-known figures on the list, but there are some names that people won’t know, as we want to celebrate unsung heroes too. We hope the 100 Welsh Women list will inspire people to learn more about these women and how they have shaped our history and act as role models for today’s young women.”
Llinos added, “I am Anglesey’s first female Council Leader and the youngest female Leader in Wales. I am passionate about educating and giving people a voice and for the past seven years in local politics I’ve worked hard in the areas of social reform; focusing on the economy, health and wellbeing of the people of Anglesey as well as North Wales, and given people a voice in shaping the authority’s future aims and objectives.”
“As a single mum to two young children and being one of the youngest councillors in Anglesey I can relate to many of the barriers and challenges people face. I am keen to connect and inspire the young people of Ynys Môn, working with them to create the conditions for people to achieve their long-term potential, to support and keep them safe, healthy and as independent as possible and to work with them to ensure that they can cope effectively with change and developments.”
“I would like to thank WEN Wales for this accolade. There are so many more women out there that have incredible stories to tell, that have overcome great barriers and who are determined to get to where they want to be. This recognition is for them and for these women to remember that anything is possible.”
