A PENSIONER has died after falling from Snowdon, Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team has confirmed.
The 70-year-old fell from an area near the intersection of the Miners and PYG tracks on the mountain just before 3.30pm on Tuesday afternoon.
He was airlifted from the scene to Ysbyty Gwynedd but despite the best efforts of everyone involved, he did not survive his injuries.
"The Maritime and Coastguard Agency Rescue [helicopter] was quickly on scene and dropped their onboard paramedic before returning to our landing zone to pick up two team members with more equipment," A Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team spokesperson said.
"After placing the man on a stretcher, the gentleman was winched back onboard the rescue [helicopter] and transferred to Ysbyty Gwynedd. Despite the best efforts of everyone involved, the gentleman did not survive his injuries.
"Our sincerest condolences go to the family and friends of our fellow hillwalker and also our thanks to the passers-by who did all they could to try to make this a better outcome."
The Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team is a fully voluntary organisation which responds to those in need on Snowdon and the surrounding mountains. The Team is on-call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and relies entirely on donations from members of the public to carry out this essential life-saving rescue service.
