ANGLESEY Council has elected a new chairman.
Sub postmaster Cllr Jim Evans, of Llanfairpwll, will become the authority’s civic head for 2015/16 after his election by other council members on Thursday.
He replaces previous chair Cllr Vaughan Hughes.
Cllr Bob Parry, who represents the Canolbarth Mon ward, will serve as vice-chairman.
Speaking after his election, Cllr Evans, said: “To be elected as council chairman is a huge privilege and I thank my fellow councillors for the faith they have placed in me.
“I promise to represent the island and its residents to the best of my abilities.
“I look forward to my year as County Council Chairman and will carry out my many civic duties with pride.”
Cllr Evans is a member of Menai Bridge Town Council and also attends meetings of Penmynydd and Llanfairpwll Community Councils.
He is also a school governor at Ysgol David Hughes, Menai Bridge.
He was first elected as county councillor for the Braint ward in 2008, before being elected as one of the three county councillors representing the newly formed Aethwy ward in May 2013.
In recent years, he has been involved with the development of the bowling green in Llanfairpwll for community use and work to designate the village as a smoke-free area.
