A MAN who was found standing on a sandbank "chest deep in water" was rescued and treated for cold water shock.
Abersoch and Pwllheli RNLI were paged by HM Coastguard on April 27 following reports of a man overboard at Carreg y Defaid, between LLanbedrog headland and Pwllheli.
The HM Coastguard also attended
Both the Abersoch RNLI Atlantic 85 and Pwllheli RNLI D-Class lifeboats were launched.
On arrival at the scene, one or the two casualties had managed to right the capsized 21-foot sailing boat.
A spokesperson for Abersoch RNLI said: "Both he and the pet dog were safely back onboard. The second casualty had drifted towards the headland and was standing on a sandbank chest deep in water.
"Due to the limited depth of water the crew of the D-class lifeboat retrieved the casualty and returned him to Pwllheli Marina and was handed over to a waiting Welsh Ambulance crew.
"Our Abersoch RNLI Volunteer crew escorted the vessel back to Pwllheli Marina.
"Both casualties were treated for cold water shock. No injuries were sustained, including the dog.
"The sailing boat was equipped with appropriate safety equipment and both casualties were wearing life jackets."
