DETECTIVES have been granted more time to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of popular footballer Henry AYABOWEI.

Mr AYABOWEI, from the Llangefni area, was found seriously injured near the Peep nightclub, on Dean Street, just by the junction of Brick Street and the High Street, in Bangor, at  2am, on Saturday.

He was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd, but after being transferred to a hospital in Stoke on Trent died of serious injuries.

A 26-year-old man has appeared before a special hearing at Llandudno Magistrates Court on Sunday, April 2, but has now  been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Since his death, tributes have poured in for the popular father of two. Flowers line the Bangor pavement where he was found, and there has been an outpouring of grief on social media.

DCI Brian Kearney stated: “Whilst the investigation remains at an early stage, we are grateful to the public for their significant support following Henry’s tragic death.”

Shortly after 5pm, on Monday, April 3, an application to extend the warrant of further detention for a further 24 hours was made at Caernarfon Magistrates Court by the investigation team, to interview the suspect.

This application was granted. North Wales Police therefore have up until shortly after 10pm, tonight, Tuesday, April 4, in which to conduct further enquiries.
